Our History in China

Allianz, as the first international insurer, signed cooperation agreements on reinsurance support and know-how transfer with Chinese insurance companies in the early ‘80s.

In 1994, Allianz established representative offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou (the last was closed after operation of Allianz P&C branch started).

Over the years Allianz established many operations in China. With 1158 employees, Allianz is present in nearly all its core businesses:

  • Allianz China Life Insurance Co. (AZCL), the first European life insurance company in China since Jan. 1999;
  • Allianz Insurance Company Guangzhou Branch (AZCN) since Feb. 2003;
  • Guotai Junan Allianz Fund Management Co. since April 2003;
  • Mondial Assistance China since 2003

Our Services:

Travel and medical assistance

At the heart of our travel insurance business is a specialist medical assistance capability. Allianz Global Assistance has a multilingual team of 40 doctors and nurses who help travellers when they become ill or when they are injured away from home—this is what sets our travel insurance apart from other travel insurance products.

We provide comprehensive services covering all aspects of travel insurance as are offered in the marketplace. Our travel insurance policies are made-to-measure and provide extensive coverage for emergency medical assistance and repatriation, lost or stolen baggage, cancellations and unforeseen additional expenses.

Health & Life Care

We cooperate with insurance companies to provide high-end medical care products, which have the following characteristics:

  • designed specially for high-income groups and some foreigners in China
  • extraordinarily high insured amount
  • extended coverage generally including outpatient services, hospitalisation, prescription medicines, dentistry and childbirth
  • direct payment.

Middle-range medical care

Middle-range medical care products are designed for middle-income groups and are designed to offer a level of care that is over and above that provided by social security.

For outbound students: Overseas Student Health Cover

Our Overseas Student Health Cover product is designed specially for Chinese students studying abroad. This product provides global assistance, comprehensive health care and emergency assistance.

Our professional consultants in our 24-hour, 365 days-a-year operations centre, use in-house expertise and our vast network of approved service providers to expertly coordinate roadside assistance services.

To complement our core roadside repair service, including breakdowns of any kind, battery failure, flat tyres, lockouts/lost keys and lack of fuel, our customised solutions offer a broad range of additional customer assistance services:
